Happy Hump Day!
Over the last 24 hours, I shared the news about my new client; did some research on ecological metacommunities; and stumbled upon an article about Sacred Enterprise.
Ecological vs Web3 Metacommunities
The metacommunity concept is one that originated in the field of ecology. It provides a tool for studying biodiversity in a macro-scale context. It arose out of a need to explain the impacts that regional (macro) communities have on local (micro) communities, and vice versa.
Kind of reminds me of the axiom, "as above, so below." All things are connected, right?
But since this is an ecological concept, there's a heavy academic/statistical bias. What intrigued me the most was how I saw the concept relate to the way I'm seeing "communities of communities" form online - especially in Web3 and the metaverse.
In the future, people may even start to specialize in "meta-community building" once they realize community-building is just the first layer. The next layer being about managing communities who own more of their own data, require smarter permissions, and move ephemerally between platforms.
